Summer is soon here with us up in the north. Summer with us means we spend time in the sun, not out of the sun. Pure bliss.

Just 7 months to go…

November in Northern Europe is not a particularly endearing time of year. It’s grey, the leaves have fallen and the days are short and growing shorter. Time for migratory birds to get away. This particular bird (me that is) is, alas, wing clipped had has to endure the whole autumn – winter season in the north. Oh well, it’s just another 7 months until summer is here again. Can’t wait…

Summer – end of season

The summer season is slowly coming to an end, many are going back to work. Our summer paradise has gone back to hibernation. Summer in the north is bittersweet, beautiful but a short lived flower.

Lazy days in the sun. We’re not spoiled for summers like this in Scandinavia

But what we are spoiled for is great beaches with plenty of space for one and all. Byo beach chair.

Summer (2) – Arholma

Arholma, an island in the northern part of Stockholm Archipelago. There are some 50 people living there all year round and perhaps 500 during summer. During summertime you can go by boat from downtown Stockholm, a nice 4,5 hour ride.

There are no cars on Arholma. It’s ever so nice to walk the country lanes and only encounter bicycles or slow moving 3 or 4 wheel open vehicles.

Island transport

I suppose there are sandy beaches somewhere around, but in this part of the world we prefer the polished granite cliffs instead of the sandy beaches. The cliffs get nicely warm in the sun and are surprisingly comfortable. All very reminiscent of childhood summers.
