Time to get back to the central theme of my photo project, rural South Australian PUBs. I have stayed at country hotels most of the time, but chosen to comment on side issues that have caught my interest rather than on the central theme.
I’m planning to spend a few days at a bush retreat to take a break from the project and to get the opportunity to really think through where I am and what I have achieved so far.
Before that though, I stayed for 2 nights at Elliston Hotel which is a short drive from Coodlie Park, which is where I will hide for some days.
And yesterday was Friday.
It was a bit of a special occasion. New owners are running the hotel since a week and this Friday was the official launch. Citizens and visitors turned out in force and it was a great evening. Many commented on that this is what it used to be like 20 years ago.
The evening was mild and pleasant, kids ran around, friends gathered and lied about their fishing exploits, cricket, footy and what have you, the beer flowed and a good time was had by all.
Big city person observation:
1. the mix of ages, from kids screaming around on the lawn, parents having meal and a few drinks, the kids just over legal age limit to drink and the middle aged and older. Not that usual from where i come.
2. the absence of aggravation, even later at night. Big cities can be pretty nasty late at night on a Friday evening.
It was certainly one of the better Fridays I’ve had for some time! I’m so pleased that I stopped over at Elliston Hotel and had the luck to be there this Friday.
